Well I don’t think annotations divide data from execution — luckily data is still not in annotations.

Agreed that annotations can be good candidates for configuration, separated from code: but as you write, they are often used to do so much more. Far beyond configuration, they became an alternative language which we use to modify the behavior of our code.
